The Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage is also open in July and August on Wednesdays - Saturdays from noon to 4 PM. Admission Charge.
Located within the Fairgrounds is one of New England's finest Museums!
Referred to as “one of Maine’s best kept secrets,” the Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage has something for everyone. The Museum has on display over 10,000 artifacts reflecting the history, life styles and ingenuity of Mainers since the eighteenth century. Included are carriages, sleighs, agricultural tools and machinery, toys, musical instruments, a research library, and a complete one-room schoolhouse.
While in the museum visit the recently constructed Moxie wing where you can view over 1,000 items of Moxie memorabilia including the 32 foot tall Moxie Bottle House constructed in 1905. Across the way is the newly constructed Maine Wild Blueberry Museum with exhibits of blueberry equipment and visual displays about Maine’s wild blueberry industry.
Visit the Museum shop to purchase memorabilia items pertaining to the blueberry industry and, of course, Moxie, Maine’s Official Soft Drink.
Visits to the museum are free to Fair goers. It is also open during July and August, Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 4. Admission then is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children.
